Historically coming from the research and work of Doctors Paul Pittaluga, Bernard Réa and Sylvain Chastanet, vascular surgeons, this selective method removes only the sick and irremediable varicose veins by preserving the main superficial vein of drainage, the saphenous vein. It thus enables an economy of the venous capital by not withdrawing the healthy veins, not affected by the disease.

It is a modern technique, not very aggressive, comfortable and aesthetic. The A.S.V.A.L. is made under local anaesthesia, sometimes with the assistance of relaxing techniques. There is no particular care to give after the intervention. Usually, the A.S.V.A.L. method does not require an interruption of work and enables the return to daily activities one hour after the intervention.

A NEW METHOD BORN OF THE DISSATISFACTION
WITH THE TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES
Our surgical teams knew and largely practiced the traditional techniques of treatment of the varicose veins. They consequently could measure all the disadvantages of them: aggressive character (haematomas involving postoperative pains and discomfort), need for an important anaesthesia and a hospitalization (usually from 2 to 3 days), finally the inconstant aesthetic result and the frequency of the repetitions of varicose veins.

These are precisely the reasons which incited us to develop the A.S.V.A.L. method. We wanted to find new solutions, at the same time softer and more effective, and definitely more respectful of the venous capital of the patients.



Resolutely turned towards a constant search for perfection, as well on the medical as the aesthetic level, the A.S.V.A.L. method has 3 main objectives:
1/ to be softer in the surgical gesture;
2/ to adapt to each case, by making a personalized microsurgery for each patient;
3/ to better accompany the patients after the intervention and to better restore normal functioning to their hygiene of life.
